good evening there is so much comedy in gail simon tweeting out “ok so maybe elements of comic book cass cain were racist & maybe I personally wrote some of the racism myself, but that should be excused because the comic characterization also did some Good Things… and film cass getting a backstory reboot (as happens in many adaptive works, literally because they’re Adaptations & even comics are subject to retcon at a moment’s notice) is inexcusable because MAYBE they sidestepped MY bad things, but they didn’t include my GOOD things, and that’s more important than judging the good & bad things in film cass’s writing on its own merits, because MY work & its impact (but only the positive impact) is more important than criticism of my negative impact + any potential positive impact THEIR work could have”
like I’m all for critiquing the harley quinn movie but that doesn’t exempt the batman comics from like. nonstop orientalism lmao & autistic/disabled fans can be mad movie cass isn’t nonverbal just as legitimately as asian fans can be like “ok but the writing you found representation in was fucking racist, and because that’s at another community’s cost, I am also allowed to see the merits in an ADAPTATION that 1) doesn’t take anything away from the comics you already have bc they still exist & 2) doesn’t take any representation away that wasn’t built on the back of yellow peril dragon lady stereotypes, bc you aren’t OWED other people eating the negative cost of your rep, without being attacked for it”
anyway comics was a mistake of course bc this shit’s all over my feed & nerd beef is generally funny, but this is deadass “SOME PEOPLE… USE RACISM… TO COPE” from ppl being mad about the kind of continuity issues that are literally standard practice in comic book films/tv AND within those exact same comics themselves, tbh PARTICULARLY with batman films in general and the roulette wheel of randomly assigned robin names, backstories, personalities, etc QUITE specifically.

I swear to God I am so tired of this meme. You guys need to leave Wonderwall alone, seriously by now you should’ve somehow realized what you gotta do
i don’t fucking believe this. i don’t believe that anybody feels the way i do about you now

hmm. joan repeating what sherlock said of the two of them–“we’re two people who love each other”–six months after he said it indicates:
a) that sentence is burned into her memory & her heart;
b) she feels the exact same way (obviously), but it is far easier for her to use the words that sherlock has already given her than to use her own.
and that’s joan all over, isn’t it? we’ve seen time and time again how she struggles to express her feelings on this verbally, while he–against common conceptions of the two characters–expresses his love for her freely and repeatedly. this isn’t a bad thing. they’re different people. they express love differently. they both know that. “we’re two people who love each other” was not really a confession, because they both knew that already; more than anything else it was a gift that sherlock was giving joan. a way for her to reciprocate the love they both feel.
